“Kiss your own fingertips
and hug your own curves.
You are made of waves and honey
and spicy peppers when it is necessary.
You are a goddess,
I hope you haven’t forgotten.”
I’m not sure what it is, but I have had a lot of redheads and a lot of gorgeous tattooed women in the studio lately. Michaela has both, and she came alive in front of my camera during her boudoir session. I do a lot of guiding as far as posing and facial expressions, but some women just get it. And as fun as boudoir sessions are, they can be a lot of work physically for both the subject and the photographer – a lot of climbing around and bending in ways that don’t always feel natural. There’s also a huge amount of vulnerability that comes with being in lingerie at a boudoir session. So it gets me really pumped when someone like Michaela is in the studio, someone who embraces every part of herself and just rocks it.
It’s also so important to point out that having hair and makeup professionally done creates a confidence before the session even begins. Hillary Fay is invaluable to that part of the process and she always knows just what I’m going for even if I’m super vague and just tell her something like “soft and natural but with an impact”. She totally nailed that with Michaela’s look, right?! We kept the emphasis on her stunning blue eyes and did a very subtle lip and glowy skin. Creating a look that works with the your lingerie outfits and your natural beauty is all part of the planning process when you book an Ever After boudoir session.
I’m always blown away by the women who come to the studio, who seem a little nervous and shy at first but once I start clicking the shutter and guiding them through poses, they just shine. I can see a difference in how they carry themselves and how they smile when they leave here. That’s why I do this. Sure, I want them all to have beautiful photos of themselves, but if they leave here feeling as gorgeous as I know they are, then I’ve done my job. Thank you Michaela for coming to the boudoir studio on a weekday and bringing your fire to life. <3
